Coach David Rexroat continues to build legacy
The Russell County Lakers clinched the 4th Region Baseball Championship with a decisive 12-3 victory over the Warren East Raiders, securing their second title in three seasons. Tournament MVP Trace Stringer led the Lakers, who overcame a 3-1 deficit in the third inning by scoring 12 unanswered runs, with a standout performance both on the mound and at the plate. Stringer pitched a complete game, allowing only three runs on seven hits, and contributed significantly to the offense. Key players Adam Walters, Mayes Gosser, Ayden McGowan, Owen Loy, Walker Stephens, and Tanner Stringer each recorded two hits. The Lakers will now compete in the State Tournament in Lexington on June 6.
Warren East coach Wes Sanford expressed pride in his team’s effort and development, focusing on the positive memories and camaraderie despite the loss. The Raiders initially led 3-1 thanks to hits from Kavien Hinton and Maddox Tarrence, but could not sustain their lead as the Lakers’ offense exploded in the third inning. Russell County’s success was attributed to their rigorous regular-season schedule, as noted by coach David Rexroat. The Lakers’ victory was secured through strong defensive plays and strategic hitting, earning them a spot in the upcoming state tournament.
